Ulcer in Stomach
Lesion that is formed in the lining of the stomach is
known as ulcer in stomach, gastric ulcer or peptic ulcer. In the beginning, doctors believed that stressful
lifestyle and poor diet causes ulcer but later they found out that an off-balance of digestive fluids
(hydrochloric acid and pepsin) causes this.
But today, research shows
that stomach infected with a spiral-shaped bacterium known as Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the cause of
ulcer. The bacteria can weaken the stomach’s defensive mechanisms by attaching itself to the stomach cells. It
is also believed that H. pylori stimulate the production of acid in the stomach which causes tissue damage and
inflammation. When this happens, you will have an ulcer in stomach.
One of the most common stomach ulcer symptoms is one where you feel a burning sensation and pain in the abdomen
behind the breastbone. It is painful especially when you have an empty stomach. You might also have other
symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, heartburn, belching, vomiting and bleeding.
Treatment for patients
with ulcers in stomach usually entails taking antacids and antibiotics but, for some reason, bacteria are
resistance to antibiotics. It is wise to avoid gastric-irritant foods such as alcohol, tea, coffee, spicy food
and cigarettes as it only worsen the ulcer.
A good diet for stomach
ulcer advice that I learned a long time ago is to take a few small meals per day instead of large meal as it
helps in translating less acid production in the stomach at each meal. To help your ulcer to heal, eat a high
fiber, low carbohydrates diet and consume vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage.
Drinking lots of water can also help in getting rid off ulcer in stomach. Taking 1 Tablespoon of Active Manuka
Honey with 1/4 Teaspoon of cinnamon powder, for instance, is believed to clear stomach ulcers.
